Mae Nam Beach is located in the middle of Samui's northern coast, about 8 west of International Aiport and no more than 15 minutes with a scooter or taxi from Chaweng Beach. Surrounded by large palm trees and dense vegetation, the 3 km golden sandy beach is very quiet and uncrowded even in high season. The beautiful turquoise shallow waters make it suitable for families with kids and tourists in search of tranquility. Along the beach you have a wonderful view over Koh Phangan, located just in front at about 14 km away. Facing the beach there are some centers for scuba diving; snorkelling, windsurfing and the other water activities are practicable. Along the coast, the old and the new buildings were built with respect for nature; there are luxury hotels but also cheaper bungalows, suitable for those looking for a good accommodation within budget. Behind the beach sets Mae Nam, a traditional Thai village with wooden houses older more than 60 years. In the village there are shops of all kinds, massage centers and wellness, pharmacies, ATMs, mini markets and several good seafood restaurants with reasonable prices. Every Thursday after 5pm, the village center is home to Mae Nam Walking Street, a very lively weekly market. The street is only a couple of hundred meters long, but filled with plenty of colorful stalls selling imitations, local crafts, used and new clothes, eye glasses, cocktails and good Thai street food. The market is also enlivened by improvised road artists, either Thais or enterprising tourists. In Mae Nam is situated the Lompraya's pier, the company owner of fast catamarans connecting Samui with nearby Koh Phangan, the farthest Koh Tao and even Chumphon on the mainland.Read More
