Koh Larn's Beaches
Koh Larn, also called Coral Island, is located 7.5 kilometres west of Pattaya, visible to the naked eye from the town bay. The island is about 4.5 km in length and 2 km in width, a total area of 5.6 square kilometres of which 90% is made up of hills, covered with lush tropical vegetation. Its highest point reaches 180 metres, it is home to a Buddhist shrine. Koh Larn has two villages, Ban Krok Makhan and Ban Ko Larn, where there are lodgings, restaurants, shops, a school and a small medical centre. The island is inhabited by about 3,000 residents, mostly clustered around the Naban ferry pier. There are six main beaches on Koh Larn, all have white sand and crystal clear waters, most are on its west side, like Samae, Tawaen and Thien Beach. You can get to almost all beaches with song-thaews or motorbike taxis. There are plenty of activities to enjoy on the island, such as parasailing, jet skiing, hiking, shooting, banana boat and fishing. In the clear waters around the island you can also practice snorkelling and diving, or take a trip to enjoy the marine life in a semi-submersible submarine. The tiny island is connected to Pattaya City with a ferry service that leaves from Bali Hai Pier, at end of famous Walking Street. There are hourly departures from 07:00 to 18:30. Koh Larn Ferries go to both piers of island, Naban and Tawaen Beach, with departures and arrivals alternated. The ferry ride takes about 45 minutes. The one-way fare is 30 THB. Alternatively you can reach the island with private speed boat for 1500/2000 THB, the trip takes about 15 minutes.Read More
