Chaweng Walking Street

Located in south Chaweng Beach just off the main road, Chaweng Walking Street is not only a stretch of street dedicated to shopping but a point of interest and a meeting place for tourists in Koh Samui when the sun goes down. Although the Chaweng Walking Street seems to extend along the main Beach Road for several kilometres, this 300-meter road is a tumult of colours, sounds and scents offered by numerous shopping stalls, several cocktail bars and countless food stands. This is the place where you can take a break sipping a cocktail comfortably sitting in a bar or tasting delicious Thai food while other tourists continue to bargain on the items on sale. The outdoor market comes to life by mid afternoon when the traders arrive and begin setting up their stalls under the hot sun of Samui. However, it's from 6pm in the evening that the small street is really alive and tourists begin to arrive in large numbers looking for a good bargain or simply to sit down at food court and have dinner. Chaweng Walking Street is the paradise for imitations and pirated items, but you will also find handicrafts, souvenirs, beach wear and sandals, carved wooden, silk scarves, kids clothing and cosmetics. Like in any Thai outdoor market, there is free bargaining, but prices are already quite affordable. Here you can haggle for fake brand products such as Ralph Lauren and Lacoste polo shirts, T-shirts, jeans, Ray Ban sunglasses, shoes, watches, handbags, pirated CDs and DVDs. Most of these fake brand goods can be purchased at a fraction of the cost that you would expect to pay from an official outlet in Thailand or in most western countries, but never forget that they are imitations and quality is certainly not comparable to the branded items. There is a large food court, as well as a number of stalls along the Chaweng Walking Street, where you can taste a large variety of delicious Thai food including curry with chicken and pork, grilled pork, sticky rice, fried chicken, boiled chicken, squid and grilled fish, deep-fried fish, smoothies and dessert. There are also plenty of bars where you can rest and have a beer or a cocktail while listening to the music of live artists on the central stage.
