Had Klong Kloi, better known as Bang Bao Beach, is located on the southwestern tip of Koh Chang, about 25 km from the Ao Sapparot Pier. The beach lies next to the island's main road, just 1 km ahead the junction leading to Bang Bao village. The beautiful and unspoiled Had Klong Kloi boasts a white and fine sand surrounded by palm trees, crystal clear water perfect for swim, and a beautiful panoramic view over the small islands south of Koh Chang. Until a few years ago it was completely devoid of facilities and was home to a family of local fishermen, whose house is still in the center of the beach. This stretch of island was little known and unattractive by tourists arriving at the extreme south of Koh Chang as usually, once visited the village on stilts at Bang Bao, they returned north to spend their days in the most famous White Sand and Klong Prao beaches. Only recently were built two or three restaurants and bars along the beach, making Had Klong Kloi a great place to relax and enjoy beautiful sunsets. The southern end of the beach was also the site of the most beautiful lagoon on Koh Chang, which has been lost to build Aunchaleena Beach Resort, one of the largest and most prestigious resort on island. Recently in addition to it, other luxury village resorts with pools and private beaches were built in the south of Klong Kloi. Along the beach are also available some bamboo bungalows with a good value for money. The nearby Bang Bao is a former fishing village on stilts largely rebuilt for tourism, which has replaced fishing as the main source of employment and income for local residents. Its large pier, which is the starting point for ferries to Koh Mak, Koh Wai and Koh Kood, is now a narrow street full of shops, quaint bars and restaurants offering fish, giant shrimp and other crustaceans kept alive in large aquariums. On a stretch side of village there is also a nice and particular resort built on stilts. Most of boat trips around Koh Chiang start from Bang Bao Pier. The pier is also the base of most of the diving schools on the island, with dive boats and offices located just along the pier itself.Read More
