Koh Chang Diving

Almost unknown until thirty years ago, in the last decades Koh Chang has become one of Thailand's best diving destinations. The Mu Ko Chang Marine National Park offers great opportunities for diving and snorkelling with several beautiful sites, and the mai island is well placed to serve the whole archipelago. The diving season runs from October/November to April/May, when the sea is calm and the visibility is usually very good, at least 15 meters but often even more. From late May to October, the heavy rains reducing the visibility of more than 40%, making the diving virtually unworkable for long periods, consequently many of Scuba Centres and Diving Schools are closed. Water temperature is about 29 °C all year round. Currents are usually weak or moderate, can be strong occasionally in some dive sites. The sea around the islands of archipelago is relatively shallow, with an average depth of immersion in most sites between 5 and 20 meters. Lack of strong currents or great depth makes the Mu Ko Chang Marine National Park a great destination to learn diving or to improve your level of diver. There are 3 main areas to diving in Mu Ko Chang Marine National Park: Koh Chang, Koh Rang National Park and Koh Mak, about 20 km to south of main island. The various dive sites offer nice submerged pinnacles, the coral reefs surrounding islets and rocky outcrops and even wrecks of warships. The rock formations are covered with patches of hard and soft corals, anemones, barrel sponges and a wide variety of sea fans.
