Haad Yao West is, along with Haad Rin Nok, the most beautiful and famous beach on Koh Pha Ngan. Also known as Long Beach, it is set in a stunning environment encircled by towering palms on one side and the inviting warm sea of Gulf of Thailand from the other. About a kilometre long and wider than other island's beaches, Haad Yao boasts beautiful white, fine and soft sand that gently slopes into the crystalline turquoise water. The shallow water is ideal for swimming and there is also a coral reef across the entire bay that offers great spots for both snorkeling and diving. Set just 400 meters off the shoreline, it's one of the best reefs off the coast of Koh Phangan with plenty of marine life to see. There are also a few dive schools in Haad Yao that offer a range of scuba diving courses. Well developed in recent years, the beach features a wide variety of accommodation to choose from. The choice ranges from big resorts to boutique resorts and friendly hotels, as well as traditional wooden bungalows for those who have a limited budget. There are some great bars, cafes and restaurants located along the beach, while back towards the main road you can find a good range of cheaper options for eating and drinking. Not to be confused with the homonymous beach on the east coast, Haad Yao is located on the north-western coast of island and is easily accessible with a 20 minute ride by motorbike or songthaew from Thong Sala.Read More
