Phuket Big Buddha, formally Phra Phutta Ming Mongkol Akenakiri or Ming Mongkol Buddha, is one of the most important and revered Buddhist temples in Phuket. The huge white statue of Buddha sits on top of the Nagakerd Hill between Chalong and Karon. It is visible across the southern part of the island thanks to its height of about 45 meters. From the hill top you can enjoy a 360 degree view of the southern part of Phuket island, sightseeing of Phuket Town, Kata, Karon and the beautiful Chalong Bay. The Wat is easily reachable by a six kilometre scenic road which starts from Chaofa Road, the main road through the east coast of Phuket, just 2 km from Chalong Circle. The concrete statue has a base of 25 meters and is completely covered with a beautiful white Burmese jade marble that shines in the sun, making it a natural symbol of hope. On a good day more than 1,000 people visit the temple, many of them to pray and donate money for maintenance, purchasing a tile of which the statue is covered, and writing on the back messages for the good luck or in memory of their loved ones passed.Read More
