Settled on Phuket's western coast, Surin Beach is approximately halfway between the International Airport and Patong Beach, no more than 30 minute drive from both destinations. The stunning beach boasts white and fine sand that gently slides into turquoise crystalline waters, making it one of the island's most beautiful beaches. Lined by beautiful palms and tall casuarina trees, the wide sandy strip is about 700 meters long and is very popular with tourists and locals alike, although not as busy as Patong. Prior to the "beaches clean up", Surin Beach was lined with a wide selection of shops, restaurants, cafes and sophisticated beach clubs, however they were all demolished in mid-2016 as part of a programme imposed by the military to bring Phuket's beaches back to their natural state. Despite the gripes of tourists and local operators, even chairs and loungers were not available for more than a year, but Surin now has sun beds. In addition to sunbathing and swimming, there is a good range of beach activities available at Surin. Snorkelling is good from October through to April around both edges, while surfing can be good from May to October near the southern or northern headlands. By kayaking you can reach the nearby Pansea Beach or Laem Sing Beach that lies a little bit further south. You can rent surfboards and boggie boards from the surf shop located on the main road. During high season, speedboats and Jet Sky are also available. Note that during the monsoon season the sea at Surin Beach can be rough and rather dangerous, so if you see a red flag it means that the beach is closed. Surin is also known as "Millionaire's Row" due the wealthy Vips and famous film stars that choose to stay in the luxury resorts located behind the northern end of beach or in the adjacent Pansea Beach, including Amanpuri, Twinpalms and The Surin. In addition to these top-end resorts, at Surin you will find a range of million dollar villas that sit on top of the hills overlooking Andaman Sea. Despite Surin being focused on top-end hotels, the small coastal village behind the beach also offers more affordable accommodation, ranging from small guesthouses to mid-range hotels and boutique resorts. Whilst all the eateries and clubs are now gone from the beachfront, there is still an ample supply of restaurants and wine bars near Surin to choose from.Read More
