Open since 1988, Safari World is one of the most popular amusement parks by locals living in Bangkok's metropolitan area. Covering a total area of 340 hectares, 880 acres, it is a huge complex that consists of two theme parks, the Safari Park, which is an open drive-through zoo, and the Marine Park that houses a vast spectrum of animals, several attractions, and many animal performances. The open space of Safari Park is truly impressive. It consists in an eight kilometres long path through the 480 acres of a zoo and 180 acres of a bird park. The exciting safari lasts about 45 minutes with the park buses, and you can even drive through with your own car. It features hundreds of wild animals from all over the world that wander freely, also including the tigers and lions. The first part of path is home to many species of herbivores like antelopes, gazelles, zebras, camels, giraffes, rhinos and great flocks of large birds, including pelicans, cranes, marabou storks and ostriches. You can stop your car and even open the windows as you please to admire the animals, but you don't step out of the vehicle, as well as don't feed the animals or make loud noises. Further on there are areas where you can watch the feeding of tigers and lions. Also the giraffes feeding station is a great attraction to be admired. Here you can watch supposedly the largest herd of this animal in the world, you can get close to them and even feed these gentle animals. The Marine Park is more of a traditional zoo; it is a theme park with stunt and animal performances, a few attractions, lots of food stalls and souvenir shops. The attractions include the Jungle Cruise, a water flume ride through the jungles of Africa and Asia. Are performed several exciting shows daily, including Spy War action stunts, water skiing, Hollywood cowboy stunts, birds, orang-utan boxing, and elephant show. The dolphin show is always the most popular and spectacular. Check the time table when entering as there are no less than seven daily shows, including the inevitable elephant show.
