Krabi Town
Located about 780 km south of Bangkok and 180 east of Phuket Town by road, Krabi is the main town in the southern province of Krabi and one of the most famous seaside resorts of Thailand. With about 60,000 inhabitants, the small resort city overlooks the west coast of the Malay Peninsula at the mouth of the Krabi River, where it flows into Phang Nga Bay. Despite being much less commercialized and famous than neighbouring Phuket Island, Krabi receives over two million visitors a year making tourism one of the main sources of income in the city's economy. Most of holidaymakers are attracted primarily by its relaxed and calm atmosphere, but also because the whole province is noted for its natural beauties and considered a small pristine gem on the Andaman Sea. Krabi Town is the perfect starting point to reach the interior of province, where are two mainland national parks, Khao Phanom Bencha and Than Bokkhorani, which offer scenic attractions, including waterfalls and caves with stalactites and stalagmites, as well as good opportunities for trekking, bird watching, and eco-tours. From the city's port, ferries and smaller boats depart to reach some of the nearby 154 islands. These include Hong Islands, Koh Lanta, Poda Islands and the amazing Phi Phi Islands, which are among the most renowned islands of Thailand.
