Sathorn
Sathorn
Sathorn is one of newest districts of Bangkok. It was part of the Yan Nawa district until November 1989 when, due to the large area and population, the new district was established inheriting a part of area once served by Yan Nawa. Bordered by Bang Rak and Pathum Wan districts at north and by Khlong Toei, Yan Nawa and Bang Kho Laem districts at south, Sathorn extends from the southern tip of Lumpini Park, Bangkok's largest green area, up to the east bank of Chao Phraya River. High buildings and gleaming towers characterize the skyline around Sathorn Road. The modern skyscrapers host head offices of Thai and international corporations, as well as new luxury five-star hotels like the Banyan Tree, the Metropolitan and the Sukhothai. The area has some excellent restaurants serving both Thai and Western cuisine, and luxury rooftop venues, such as the Vertigo & Moon Bar located on the 61st floor of Banyan, and the Roof@38th Bar situated in a fashionable ambience at the 38th floor of Mode Sathorn Hotel. While the southern part of Sathorn district is accessible only by taxi, the northern is well served by the Bangkok's Skytrain, which travels Sathorn Road from Lumpini Park until Saphan Taksin station, which it is within walking distance from the Sathorn Central Pier. From the pier, you can take a boat to get to historic places like the Grand Palace or to the riverside malls like River City and Asiatique The Riverfront. Close to skytrain station are placed two of the most famous Bangkok's landmarks, the luxurious Shangri-La and Lebua at State Tower hotels. More
